Peptides Guide

Peptides. You've heard the word. Here's what it actually means.

Peptides are one of the most exciting conversations happening in functional medicine right now — and one of the most misunderstood. Let's change that.

The Basics

So… What Is a Peptide?

The short answer: peptides are small proteins your body already makes. The longer answer is why people are so excited about them — and why functional medicine doctors are paying close attention.

Biology

They're Signals, Not Drugs

Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the same building blocks as protein. Your body uses them as biological signals, telling your cells to repair, regenerate, reduce inflammation, or release hormones. They're not foreign substances. They're instructions your body already understands and uses thousands of times every day.

Aging

As We Age, Our Natural Levels Drop

In your 20s your body produces peptides abundantly. By your 30s and 40s, production starts to decline — which is part of why recovery takes longer, metabolism slows, and healing isn't quite what it used to be. Peptide therapy is about restoring those signals.

Variety

Different Peptides Do Different Things

That's what makes this field so interesting — and why working with a doctor who specializes in them matters. GLP-1s support weight management and metabolic health. BPC-157 is known for gut and tissue repair. GHK-Cu supports skin, hair, and cellular regeneration. The right peptide depends entirely on your goals and your body. If you're struggling with a health issue, there's probably a peptide for that.

Medical Grade

Prescription Therapies — Not OTC Supplements

These peptides are medical grade injectables, sprays, and capsules that are compounded and prescribed by a licensed physician after a medical intake. This isn't a wellness gummy or the kind of supplement you can order off Amazon. That's what makes them so highly effective — and it's why the source and the prescriber matter enormously.

Before We Go Further…

This Is for People Who Refuse to Compromise on What Goes In Their Body.

Melissa

"When I decided to start peptides, I knew I needed the best balance of cost-effectiveness and safety. I'm a mother of four. I have too much to lose to gamble on grey market or research grade peptides. I have to know what I'm injecting is the highest quality, compounded by the best pharmacy, prescribed by a real doctor who actually knows this space. I am not looking for the Temu version when it comes to injectables. I want the absolute highest quality. And that's exactly what this is."

— Melissa

This Is for You If…

  • You understand that when you inject something, there is no taking it back. Injections bypass every defense your body has — and that quality is non-negotiable.
  • You want a real doctor who specializes in peptides reviewing your medical intake before prescribing.
  • You want your prescription compounded by a dedicated, high-quality pharmacy — not mass-produced and sitting on shelves for months.
  • You don't want to pay more than you have to, but you absolutely will not compromise on safety to save a buck.
  • You want ongoing access to your provider and someone in your corner who's been through this themselves.

This Probably Isn't for You If…

  • Your only priority is finding the lowest possible price, full stop.
  • You're comfortable sourcing peptides without a prescription or doctor oversight.
  • You'd rather skip the medical intake and just order something and see what happens.
  • You're looking for a quick fix with no interest in understanding what you're putting in your body.

A Word on "Research Grade" Peptides

"Research grade" doesn't mean clinical-trial quality — it means chemical grade, made for lab rats, and legally labeled "not for human consumption." It arrives as an unmarked powder with no dosing instructions, no doctor oversight, and no regulation. Certificates of analysis are sometimes faked outright — CLOVERx's own owner tested a batch of Tesamorelin from a supplier once and it came back containing 0% of the labeled peptide.

The most common thing we hear from people who switch from gray-market peptides to EllieMD: "Oh — this is what it's actually supposed to feel like."

The peptide space is the wild, wild west right now — there are cheap, unregulated options out there, and people use them. That's their choice to make. This isn't that. EllieMD exists for people who want to do peptide therapy right, with real medical oversight, pharmaceutical-grade compounds, and the confidence of knowing exactly what they're getting, all with the convenience of TeleHealth and peptides shipped to your door. If that's you, keep reading!

Why the Source Matters

Why I Chose EllieMD — and Why I Stay

There are a lot of telehealth companies out there right now. I did my research before I committed, and the differences are not subtle. Here's what sets EllieMD apart in ways that actually matter to your health.

Providers

Real MDs. Only MDs.

Every provider in the EllieMD network is an MD or DO — never a group of nurse practitioners or physicians assistants all working under a single supervising physician. You're working directly with a doctor who is specially trained in peptide therapy.

Network

A Dedicated Provider Network

EllieMD doctors work exclusively for EllieMD — in all 50 states. They're not generic telehealth physicians shuffling between calls for five different online companies. Your provider is focused, specialized, and here for the long term.

Pharmacy

CLOVERx Pharmacy — Tomball, TX

Your prescription is compounded by CLOVERx, a dedicated 503A partner pharmacy. Nothing is mass-compounded in advance — your order is prepared after your prescriber sends it over. Quality control is not an afterthought here.

Coming early–mid August: every compounding pharmacy and every brand-name manufacturer — including Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk — currently sources its active peptide ingredients from overseas. CLOVERx built its own manufacturing facility, and starting early to mid August, EllieMD's peptides will be 100% made in the USA, down to the active ingredient. No other pharmacy, MedSpa, telehealth source, or even the brand-name manufacturers can currently claim that.
Access

Ongoing Provider Access

This isn't a prescription-and-goodbye situation. You have continued access to your provider through the EllieMD portal — for questions, adjustments, and ongoing care. You're not on your own after your first order.

Intake

A Medical Intake — Not a Blind Prescription

Before anything is prescribed, there's a real medical intake process. Your history matters. Your goals matter. These peptides are prescribed because they're appropriate for you — not because you clicked a button and entered a credit card. That distinction is everything.

Community

You Get Me — and a Whole Community Behind Me

Your doctor handles the medical side. But the questions that come up at 9pm — which electrolytes, what to eat, why you're feeling a certain way in week two — that's where I come in. I'm a real person who has been through this, surrounded by a community of pharmacists, nurses, and other health professionals all working together to educate and support. You don't just get a prescription. You get a guide, a resource, and people who genuinely want you to succeed.

What You're Actually Paying For

One Price. Everything Included.

No membership fees. No copays. No surprise charges at checkout. Here's exactly what the price of your peptide covers — and why the structure is designed the way it is.

Included

The Price Is the Whole Price

When you see a peptide price at EllieMD, that number includes everything: your doctor's care, all follow-up provider access, shipping, injection supplies, and any additional medications that come with your protocol — like Zofran for GLP-1 customers.

Included in every order: Doctor visits & ongoing care · Shipping · Injection supplies · Additional medications where applicable · No membership fee · No copay · No hidden anything.
Bundles

Why Multi-Month Bundles — and Why It Works in Your Favor

Most peptides are supplied in two-month bundles; GLP-1s come in three months at a time. There are a few good reasons for this — and they all benefit you.

First, peptides aren't a magic pill. Some are regenerating tissue. Some are signaling your body's insulin response. Some are doing quiet, important work that takes weeks to fully express. EllieMD structures the supply so you have what you actually need to see real results — and you won't have to make a reorder decision before your body has had time to respond.

Second, the founder is deeply committed to thoughtful production and reducing waste. Bundled orders mean less packaging, lower shipping frequency, and a company that's genuinely thinking about its footprint. It keeps costs down for everyone — including you.

Payment

Payment Options That Work for You

You can pay in full at checkout, or choose interest-free installments through Klarna — no interest, no catch. FSA and HSA cards are also accepted, which can make peptide therapy surprisingly accessible if you have funds set aside.

Pay in full Klarna — interest free FSA / HSA accepted
A personal note on FSA/HSA: it's worth a quick call to your plan administrator to confirm your specific peptide is covered before you check out. Some administrators are stricter than others — I learned this one firsthand.

From the Zoom Calls

The Peptides Everyone's Talking About

Real questions and real stories pulled straight from our live Zoom calls with Caroline Glenn, PharmD — the peptides our community asks about most, and what they actually do.

GLP-1 / GIP

Tirzepatide

The dual GLP-1/GIP agonist — the gold standard for weight loss and hunger control. But the benefits reach well past the scale: it's linked to lower cardiovascular risk, kidney protection, and easing inflammation-driven conditions like migraines, and it's being studied for fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, and autoimmune conditions too.

“It helps with the weight loss, controlling hunger, food noise, all of that. But it also takes systemic inflammation out of your body.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Energy + Brain Fog

NAD+

A coenzyme peptide that supports mitochondrial and neurological function — the one people credit most for clearing brain fog and restoring real, steady energy.

“It helps to eliminate brain fog. It helps to improve your energy. And you just literally feel like you come out of this cocoon of haze.”

— Angela
All-in-One Recovery + Longevity + Beauty

KLOW

Four peptides in a single vial, each doing its own job: BPC-157 and TB-500 regenerate tissue and increase blood supply to injured areas, GHK-Cu rebuilds collagen for skin and hair, and KPV calms gut and inflammatory signaling. One injection, four systems addressed — our secondary flagship, right behind Tirzepatide.

“Within 12 hours, I could tell a difference in my back pain. It went from excruciating… to a dull, this-is-annoying pain… My favorite thing about KLOW is you're getting four peptides in a single vial — the most bang for your buck from a single injection.”

— Angela

“The carpal tunnel symptoms I was experiencing are gone — not lessened, completely gone. I was about to have a painful nerve test done and started KLOW hoping to avoid it. My skin feels glowier, and the lines on my forehead are less pronounced. I also sleep so much better — I used to wake up every hour all night long, and now I sleep soundly and wake up feeling rested instead of dragging myself to the coffee pot.”

— Shawna
Regenerative

BPC-157 / TB-500

Known as the “Wolverine stack” — regenerative peptides that increase blood supply to injured tissue. Used as an injection for joint, tendon, and connective tissue pain, or taken orally for gut healing.

“My husband has had back surgery and the pain travels up to his neck — he's been putting off neck surgery for years. I put him on BPC and he has very little neck pain now. He climbs cell phone towers with 50 pounds on his back, 300 feet in the air, multiple times a day. To not have pain he did before is life changing.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Beauty Peptide

GHK-Cu

A copper peptide that stimulates collagen production — the go-to for hair, skin, and nails, and for softening fine lines from the inside out.

“It extended my time in between Botox injections. I used to get them quarterly, and I didn't get Botox for a year and three months.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Growth Hormone

Sermorelin

A growth hormone secretagogue that supports muscle tone and deeper sleep — gentler than other GH peptides, with a real knock-on effect on mood.

“Sermorelin was huge for me and for my marriage. My husband is a fan of Sermorelin.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Immune Support

Thymosin Alpha-1

An immune-modulating peptide that supports the body's resilience against illness — a favorite for travel, cold and flu season, and recovery.

“I took it twice a day for a week and I'm the only one in the house that didn't get sick. Tell me that's not magic.”

— Lexi
Cognitive Focus

Semax

A nasal spray peptide for cognitive function — sharpens focus, memory, and mental clarity.

“Think of it as functioning at maximum capacity cognitively — it increases your focus, your memory, just clarity.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Calm + Focus

Selank

Often paired with Semax — a gentler nasal spray peptide known for easing anxiety while still supporting focus.

“My daughter has a lot of anxiety and ADHD, and really struggles with focus. Selank is kind of a muted version of Semax for her.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Sleep + Cortisol

DSIP

Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide — regulates the HPA axis and cortisol, which is why it shows up for both sleep struggles and stubborn cortisol-driven weight plateaus.

“On average it takes me somewhere between seven and 13 minutes to fall asleep. I used to lay in bed for hours. And the cool thing is you wake up feeling refreshed.”

— Caroline, PharmD
Melissa

And Then There's Me

I'm here for you, every step of the way.

I've been through this journey myself, and when you start with EllieMD through me, you get more than a prescription — you get someone in your corner who will answer the question about electrolytes, talk through high-protein meal options, and cheer you on along the way. I'm backed by a community of pharmacists, nurses, and health professionals all working together. Your doctor handles the medical. I handle the rest. And if you're the kind of person who just wants to dive in without any hand-holding — get it! I'll be here if you end up with any questions.
